“We Are Sailing” Danube Cruise with Orchestra, November 9th – 16th 2020

from £1,400.00

From Budapest to Bucharest with our own 16-piece orchestra and entertainers

Experience the mystery and beauty of eastern Europe as you sail through the history of five fascinating nations – Hungary, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, and Bulgaria – linked throughout by the majestic River Danube. Gaze in wonder at the great stone cliffs which arise out of the Danube, where ancient Roman ruins still cling to steep banks. You will sail through the legendary Iron Gate, Serbia – one of Europe’s most dramatic natural wonders. Explore exciting Budapest, booming Belgrade, eye-opening Bucharest and the spectacular rock formations of Belogradchik.

In March 2019 Theatrical Adventures became the first company to include its own full orchestra on a European river cruise.  Here’s what some of our guests said:

“I have never had so much fun in my life!”

“The perfect mix of accommodation, food, friendliness for single passengers, topped with that  wonderful orchestra and singers.”

“The best holiday I have ever been on.  I shall never forget your musicians and singers. A marvellous experience.”

“The atmosphere is quite magical – drifting down the river with beautiful music, great food and super company.”

“This was my fourth cruise with Theatrical Adventures. I intend to spend every penny of my children’s inheritance on more of them in the future!”

  1. Day 1 Monday 9th November

We meet in Budapest at the start of our adventure. We set sail at 16:00 hours precisely. The banks of the Danube are stunning as we pass the majestic architecture that makes Budapest such an exciting and inviting capital. Join us for a “Getting to Know You” reception.

  2. Day 2 Tuesday 10th November

In the early hours we leave the European Union passing through passport control into Serbia and our first port of call – Novi Sad which is home to 27 different ethnic groups and six religious denominations and often referred to as ”Little Europe.”

  3. Day 3 Wednesday 11th November

Our cruising begins in earnest as we depart Novi Sad for the leisurely 35 hour journey to Giurgiu, southern Romania, in the historical region of Muntenia. We pass the Iron Gates, an amazing 83 mile-long stretch of the Danube River separating Serbia and Romania. The scenic gorge contains two hydroelectric dams and this project raised the river’s water level by 114 ft. The gorge bears a large plaque as a reminder of the ”hanging road” built into the cliff side by the Romans around 103 AD.

  4. Day 4 Thursday 12th November

Following an early breakfast another adventure unfolds as we leave by coach, with packed lunch, for the 45 mile journey to Bucharest, the capital of Romania. The city still retains the old charm that attracted tourists after the First World War when it was called ”Little Paris.” We see the extraordinary People’s Palace, House of Parliament and the largest civilian building in the world.

  5. Day 5 Friday 13th November

After sailing overnight we arrive in Lom in north-western Bulgaria. Here guests have an opportunity of taking an optional excursion to see the Belogradchik Fortress built right into the striking Belogradchik Rocks. You can see its amazing construction which was begun in Roman times and greatly extended by Bulgarian tsars and the Ottomans. Simply breathtaking views.

  6. Day 6 Saturday 14th November

Welcome to Belgrade, Serbia’s capital. Enjoy a panoramic tour driving past the National Museum and the Parliament. Take a guided walking tour through the grounds of Kalemegdan Fortress and see the huge Orthodox Church of Saint Sava, stopping at the Square of the Republic.

  7. Day 7 Sunday 15th November

We begin the day in Vukovar in eastern Croatia. We have a short walking tour and visit to the Green Market. You will notice that many of the city’s buildings have been damaged – a powerful reminder of the devastation visited on Vukovar during the Croatian War of Independence. The Vukovar massacre took place at the Ovčara farm southeast of Vukovar on 20 November 1991.

  8. Day 8 Monday 16th November

We arrive back in Budapest at 11:00 hours having sailed more than 2000 km along Europe’s second longest river.
